The first seismograph in history was made in China.
The first seismograph in history occurred during the regency of the Han dynasty.
It was created by Zhang Heng in 132 AD, 1700 years before the first European seismograph. It was a bronze vase with nine dragons embedded in its outer part, which looked down with a bronze ball in their mouth, below these were some toads with their mouths open. If the vase detected a tremor, a ball would loosen and fall into the mouth of one of the toads.
